History of
the stratml.net Domain
In 2017
those who had been using the stratml.net domain to host Japanese text abandoned
the domain, and on August 8, Owen Ambur reacquired it for a period of five years.
Late in 2013
Sebastian Snopeck offered to sell the stratml.net
domain back to AIIM but at a price AIIM’s leadership was unwilling to pay. Therefore, rather than allowing him to
continue to hold the standard hostage, the StratML Committee decided to abandon
stratml.net domain as the namespace for the standard and switch to a URN
instead. The change was published in the
ISO version of StratML Part 1, Strategic Plans, (ISO 17469-1) as well as Part
3, Additional Elements, when is it published as an AIIM best practice.
Subsequently,
the stratml.net domain was acquired by someone in Japan. We don’t know the significance of that domain
to them, but here is a screen shot of its content as of July 20, 2015:
OCEG owns the stratml.org (as well as the
stratml.com) domain and agreed in a teleconference to turn it over to
AIIM. That did not occurr but, as of
early 2015, OCEG was redirecting those domains to http://xml.fido.gov/stratml/. Subsequently, at the suggestion of Owen
Ambur, they redirected those domains to stratml.us.
Andre Cusson, a member
of the StratML Committee, owns the stratml.info domain and offered it for any
use the Committee may wish to make of it.
GSA has indicated it plans to phase out the fido.gov domain. So the content currently at stratml.fido.gov will need to be migrated to a new domain. Bruce Troutman plans to maintain the legacy content from the fido.gov domain at govwebs.net, but Owen Ambur has acquired the stratml.us domain as a possible location for the StratML collection. As of July 2015, Owen was redirecting stratml.us to http://xml.govwebs.net/stratml/index.htm
As of October 31, 2012
AIIM
originally registered the stratml.net domain as the namespace for the Strategy
Markup Language (StratML) standard (ANSI/AIIM 21:2009 & 22:2011).
However, AIIM's marketing department inadvertently failed to renew it and Sebastian
Snopeck of Poland subsequently acquired it and is using it to direct traffic
to the Payday Loans site depicted in the image at the bottom of this page.
Immediately
below is a copy of Owen Ambur's E-mail exchange with
Sebastian in August 2012. However, since that time Sebastian has failed
to respond to further inquiries. It is beginning to look like he may
force the AIIM to acquire another domain for the StratML standard. His
motivations and intentions are unclear.

that you have an interest in “digital strategic planning”. If you haven’t
already done so, I encourage you to check out StratML. Its purposes are

and its vision is: A worldwide web of intentions, stakeholders, and

Do you have any
particular plans for the stratml.net domain? Might you be willing to
allow AIIM to reclaim it? If so, I would be happy to see that you are

and in StratML Part
3, when it is published.
I am always on the
lookout for opportunities to raise awareness and foster usage of the StratML
standard. Good tools, applications, and services will be required to
support its purposes, and its vision represents a tremendous opportunity for
enlightened application vendors and service providers. None of the
existing “social” networking services are mature for business-quality
usage. Use of an open standard like StratML is required to enable folks
like you and me to connect on the basis of shared values and common objectives
… rather than merely what we look like (Facebook), whom we know (LinkedIn), or
what we happen to be doing at the moment (Twitter).
If you’re interested
in pursuing such opportunities, I’ll be happy to respond to any questions,
comments, or suggestions you may have.
BTW, I am a retired
employee of the U.S. federal government. Since the taxpayers are already
paying me a pension they cannot afford, I feel an obligation to give back and
have no interest in commercializing StratML myself. However, I am very
interested in helping others do so, particularly those who share my commitment
to public service.
